Quality and original design inspired by Norwegian heritage, Scandinavian nature, folk art, and retro aesthetics. We design interiors and giftware with inspiration drawn from both home and abroad, managing the entire journey from the initial idea to the finished product.
Design of Norway started as a simple idea: to give form to what otherwise exists only in thought. In 1991, Kjell Erik Strøm established Design of Norway as a framework for developing thoughts and ideas into creative work. For many years, it lay dormant — waiting for the right expression and form to emerge.
That moment arrived in 2011, when designer and artist Anna Strøm joined the team. With her, the ideas gained shape and colour, direction and character. Since then, Design of Norway has evolved into a distinct universe, built on the interplay between vision, craftsmanship, and storytelling.
For us, design is not just decoration. It is a way to give the day a good start. Design can be used to share a heartfelt story and bring harmony into everyday life.
Fabelskog (The Fairytale Forest) is the core of everything we do. It is an imaginative and colourful universe where nature, humour, and animals with human traits meet.
Fabelskog ® series was first presented in 2017 at the Oslo Design Fair.
The inspiration for Fabelskog came from many sources: 1960s design, forests and nature, folk art, and traditional ornaments reimagined with a modern twist and a contemporary colour palette.
From the pages, they grow further — into objects that find a place in your home and your own imagination. Our porcelain and textiles are not detached products, but chapters of the same narrative. They are developed in close collaboration with carefully selected manufacturers, and we control the process from the very first sketch to the final object.
Materials, colours, and details are made to endure — and to stay with you for a long time.
Our creamers from Figgjo are produced in limited editions of only 100 pieces. Each piece carries forward the Norwegian porcelain tradition and Nordic design. There will be more such exclusive products coming from us soon.
Keep an eye out — perhaps the Fabelskog animals will be coming to a forest near you.
The right to be yourself, for yourself — not for everyone else.
This project grew from Kjell Erik’s idea and found its visual expression through Anna’s drawings. The question mark after Snill Pike (Good Girl) is, in fact, the whole story.
Snill Pike & Slem Pike (Good Girl & Bad Girl) is a manifesto for the woman who is the "master" of her own life. It is a story about every woman’s right to be unique: to choose her own path, to say "no" to stereotypes, and "yes" to her true dreams. Today, this manifesto lives on not only in design but also through theatrical performances and art textiles.
Created with heart in Studio Fabelskog at Åbogen. Here, we create unique objects that carry the warmth of true craftsmanship. These are not products in the ordinary sense; they are parts of a continuing story.
We produce these in very small series. Each one is hand-sewn by Anna Strøm, with a maximum of 30 pieces created for each design.
Each imaginative figure is handcrafted by Anna and exists as a one-of-a-kind piece. Every work has its own individual number and is entered into our catalogue, ensuring that this piece of our story was created exclusively for you.
